In the past, underwriting was based on three
main factors: age, gender, and tobacco use.
With the introduction of preferred underwriting,
additional factors that influence a person's health are
now considered in order to develop more specific rate
classes.
Generally there are 3 rate classes to provide
tailored coverage to more accurately match your
individual profile. Criteria used to determine your
coverage class will include:
• Tobacco Use
• Build
• Blood Pressure
• Cholesterol Level
• Medical History
• Family History
• Alcohol Use
• Drug Use
• Driving Record
• Criminal Record
Preferred underwriting is available to
individuals between the ages of 15 and 70 for most
companies. A minimum coverage amount of $100,000 is
required.
Below is a summary of the 3 coverage classes
available through most life insurance companies:
1. Preferred Plus, Non-Smoker - Targeted to
non-smoking clients
with a very healthy lifestyle and excellent medical
results.
2. Preferred, Non-Smoker - Targeted to
